Dry Lips. A journey to find a solution.
The last step I do when I’m completing a makeup application is lipstick.
Usually when I’m applying adhesive to the lash strips and allowing them to dry a little, this is my time to add a bit of lip balm to my clients lips.
Almost every wedding and every client has dry lips. I have dry lips too. The driest of lips and maybe sensitive too because my lips feel kinda weird if they’re dry.
The weather has gotten colder and it’s a constant battle. There isn’t one day when my lips aren’t dry.
This is what I do or at least should be doing to combat the dryness because who wants cracked dry lips?
Sugar Scrubs
You can buy these or you can choose to make one on your own. You need at least two these: Sugar & and an emollient base. I attempted this the other night and I was pleasantly surprised by the lasting effects.
Here’s what I used but there’s room for your interpretation.
There’s a good chance you have this in your kitchen right now.
2 Tablespoons of coconut oil
5 ish Tablespoons of brown sugar
Mix it together till it’s grainy like the stuff you’d buy and put it in a Tupperware and keep it in your bathroom drawer. I’ve been using it as the last step of my skin care routine.
After my face has been cleansed toned and moisturized it feels so amazing to exfoliate your lips and finish off with that ultra smooth, hydrated feeling on your lips. It’s really the perfect combo.
If you are a lover of essential oils a drop of peppermint oil adds a cooling, fresh feeling. Maybe something like rose oil would be a nice addition as well.
Like I mentioned earlier there’s so many combinations to add here. Different oils, sugars, maybe a drop of vanilla.
Why scrubs are so amazing is because they gently remove dead skin, they hydrate and jumpstart cellular turnover so your skin looks and feels fresher because it is.
Lip Masks
I love lip masks and if you haven’t tried any form of Korean or Asian skin care this is a great place to start. A hydrogel pad super infused with a number of targeting serums. So the hardest or funnest part is find the serum that fits for you.
Usually, the masks will have an anti-aging, hydrating, or plumping serum. I always choose anti-aging combos, next I’ll go with Hydrating.
These are so fun because you can do some work on the computer, watch your favorite show, or paint your toe nails while wearing the lip mask.
Out of the package and wear it for 10-15 mins then slide on your favorite balm to seal all the good stuff in. My favorite balm is below.
The ultimate lip balm
The obvious solution and the thing we’re always riffling through the bottom of our purses for is lip balm. Now we all know that not all lip balm is the same.
Have you ever experienced the weird lip balm that sort of sit on top of the skin but never penetrate it? Ugh.
So I’m not sure why I bought this lip high end-ish lip balm but I never looked back after I did. There is no lip balm that feels as deeply penetrating as Lanolips.
It’s also an all purpose balm. So you can use it on any part of your body that’s chapped or dry. It isn’t made from petroleum either. It’s made from an oil created from sheep wool. It does sound a little weird but nothing feels as good as this stuff and as someone who has the driest lips ever I stand by it.
