Summer Skin Tips
When the seasons change we sometimes need to adjust our skin care regimen to what makes sense. As the temperature rises our skin changes to provide hydration and protection from the changing elements. Here are a few tips for the girls.
#1 Switch to a lightweight moisturizer for oily and normal skin types.
Your skin will be producing more oil than usual and to keep your pores clear and unclogged consider switching to a light gel moisturizer.
#2 Cleanse your skin every day and most definitely before bed.
You’ll be removing dead skin, accumulated oils as well as pollution and germs collected throughout the day. If you’re oily or normal a foaming cleanser will serve you best. Secondly, washing your face before bed keeps your pillow case clean also preventing future break outs. If you are a make up girl like myself or even if you like to wear a tinted sunscreen it’s so important that your skin can breath during the regeneration and rest cycle in the evening.
#3 Go easy on the acids.
Cycle alpha hydroxy acids like glycolic, vitamin C and retinoids sparingly during the summer months. I love acids and I keep them on hand but in the summer go easy. If you plan to be hiking the blue ridge, swimming or enjoying your honeymoon on the beach you don’t want to end up burned and frying in the sun.
I remember years ago I used some acid and the next day I went to the Warriors parade in Oakland. I had walked maybe 10 blocks to the celebration with no hat and no sunscreen and my skin was on fire. Alpha hydroxy acid remove dead skin and leave delicate skin unprotected. The upside fresher smoother skin, the downside is sensitivity.
#4 Find a sunscreen you love and apply it daily.
I love Ilia skin tint SPF 50 with a super hydrating finish and it’s non chalky. Whatever you use just remember to apply it. You will be doing the most anti aging treatment there is and preserving all the hard work and invested products you put in to get your skin where it is now.
#5 Light coverage Makeup.
Summer is the time for fresh dewy looks. Find a pretty skin tint and a hydrating concealer like the Lancome concealer. Find a lovely blush Bronser combo, add a ultra soft smoked our wing with a pencil and mascara.
I promise it’s a look.
Those are my tips for summer time skin, How do you adjust your skin care in the summer? I’d love to hear your tips and feedback. No matter what, do what’s right for you and have fun in the sun babes.
